My Favorite Things – Vitamins this time

As we stroll into 2013, I thought I’d do an article about items that I really like; that is, products and/or services that add something positive to my lifestyle. I should add that these are all items that I have intuitively found to be helpful in one way or another. My inner guidance has pointed me in the direction of these products. Read this article to get the whole scoop.

One way to determine if something is good for you is to use the energy test. What is the energy test? Simply hold your hand over the item and sense how much energy it is giving you. I imagine a continuum with a line of say 0-10, with a 5 in the middle. I usually start at the middle point, the 5 and ask guidance whether this item is giving me at least that much or more energy. Then the scale inches up. Is it a 6, a 7 or if I really like it I get an 8, 9, or wow, a 10. Then I put my hand over the next item and do the same thing. Is this item giving me more or less energy? If the first one gave me about a 6, is this one equal to or less than the prior one; thus, it should be an 8 or a 4 respectively. This is how I tell if this product, book, etc. is the right one for me. It’s possible to do this with items online as well but it takes more practice.

So imagine me at the drugstore looking for gummy vitamins and holding my hand over the various bottles. First I had to determine that gummies were appropriate. After all, they do contain sugar. Gummies taste good; hence, we like to eat them rather than large horse pill vitamins. One has to weigh the pros/cons of each type of vitamin. Is it better to take a gummy vitamin with sugar to get the nutrients to ensure a healthy diet (obviously if we could prepare all the right foods, this would be the first choice. I don’t do it, do you?) Or buy horse pill vitamins and rarely take them (I hate taking large pills). It’s my experience that pills taken work better than those left in the cabinet. This is probably true for vitamins also.

After my energy test, I found Nature’s Way ALIVE Multi-Vitamin, Adult Gummies to be a good choice for me. They contain 26 fruits and vegetables and seems to cover a reasonable spectrum of the necessary vitamins and B-complex, but little calcium.

Although I can’t point to better health since taking them, I can point to taking them daily. In fact, I look forward to taking them!

Next, is the calcium supplement, which I found the same way. I selected Nature’s Bounty Calcium with D3. As we know, women need 1500 mg Calcium (hopefully, you get at least one serving from dairy, if not, you need to take two servings of the calcium supplement since one serving provides 600 mg calcium and 600 D3). Did you know that D3 is important for woman for a number of reasons, not just to help the body absorb calcium? Breast health is one area.

I also started taking fish oil/Omega 3’s to help lower cholesterol and here I can say that it worked in just a few months. I chose Iceland Health because it was from a very natural source. Buying it in 6 month supply saves me 50%. I like their soft gels. I get the version formulated for joint health but they have several versions.

I’ve highlighted some natural supplements that are some of my favorite things. In future articles, I’ll reference other things. The concept of how to determine what’s best for you is basically the same. Comments are welcome. Let me know if you try the energy technique and how it works for you.


What’s In a Name?

Our parents pick our name, sometimes before we are even born. Putting changing one’s name aside, our names gather the energy of who we are. People get images of a Jane, a John, a Damian, a Fabio or a Lolita! A name might signal a cultural influence, the mood of the parents at your birth or the hopes/dreams they wanted for your lifetime. In any case, your name becomes a part of you in many ways. In most cultures, when we address someone in person or in mail, we use the person’s name first in a salutation. We then write our note and then end with our own name.

Texting changes things

The more recent onset of cell phone texting tends to cut to the chase and eliminates the familiar greeting of “Hi Jane” and just goes to the “what are you up to?” since the note is meant to be short. Both parties have agreed, when they text each other, to be less formal by use of this method of relaying information. Usually, one doesn’t text an individual that isn’t familiar. In other words, the relationship is established.

Or should it?

But should the advent of texting convey to the world of email or more formal snail mail? Let’s say that someone is sending you a greeting card and they write your name, “Estella” on the envelope but do not write it on the inside of the card. Instead, they just write, “Love, Ed” after the nice words that American Greetings has created. Now how does Estella feel when she reads a card that does not have her name at the top of these nice words and just a signature at the bottom? Perhaps it will be accepted that Ed really is directing his feelings towards her. My take is that Ed is either not thinking about it and is just being “short”, or, what I really believe, is that it’s a way to skirt his real feelings. I think this manner of not directly addressing the person in the header or top of the card is a way of being emotional vacant. He really doesn’t want to commit but is doing his best to pretend that he does. Don’t believe me? Take a look at the relationships where this type of behavior has occurred and then see if the guy or girl has committed to a serious involvement. The answer is telling.

Let’s get back to email

So here we are back at the email message where our friend (perhaps) Ed is writing a note but leaves off the salutation, yet does sign with his name at the end. This may be common, but personally, I find it rude and rather offensive. Does he realize how rude he’s being in his rush to interact that he just doesn’t care how he comes off including creating really negative energy? Maybe it’s the lifestyle we lead. People are always in such a hurry. So wise up all you “Eds” out there! Be polite, slow down, and remember to use your contact’s name. In the end, there will be a more polite and positive energy exchange for everyone.

Ever think about how you use your gut to guide you on a daily basis without thinking about it?

Sometimes we just don’t feel like getting up. There’s this little voice inside our heads that tells us to roll over and get a few more winks. Usually, it’s just that we stayed up too late watching a good movie, but perhaps on this one day, it’s especially loud. Don’t get up. Stay in bed! Then you find out that the place you were going to work got blown up! Wow! That’s what happened to many people that didn’t go to work the day the plane hit the twin towers or the day the plane hit the Pentagon.

There are lots of stories like this. My mother was supposed to go to a party and decided at the last minute not to attend. Those that went together were in the same car; unfortunately, the car stalled on a railroad track as a train was coming and they were all killed. They couldn’t get out of the car fast enough. My mother was saved.

I was driving during the early morning hours towards an intersection and a little voice told me to “look left”. As I turned my head, I immediately put my foot on the brake in time to stop the car I was driving just prior to hitting another car that was zooming towards me. Had that voice not provided the warning, I might not be here today.

Don’t under estimate the power of your inner guidance system to give you warnings. But it’s important to pay attention and listen. Be vigilant and let your guidance guide you.
